Inclusive palliative care for LGBTIQ+ people
The project seeks pathways to inclusive, respectful and equitable palliative and end-of-life care for LGBTIQ+ individuals across Switzerland by tackling systemic barriers and health disparities to foster trust in end-of-life and palliative care.
Project description
This project investigates the unique challenges faced by LGBTIQ+ individuals in palliative and end-of-life care. Such challenges include structural barriers, discrimination and stigma, which result in health disparities and mistrust in healthcare systems. The project aims to address these issues using a participatory action research approach.
Research aim
The aim is to co-create knowledge and interventions that ensure inclusive care for LGBTIQ+ people, addressing their needs, barriers they face and pathways to equitable end-of-life and palliative care. The findings will benefit patients, their (chosen) families and healthcare professionals.
Purpose
The project is essential to address disparities in palliative care access and outcomes for LGBTIQ+ people. By fostering inclusive practices and policies, it promotes equity, empowers marginalised communities and guides systemic changes in healthcare delivery.
